Supporting Reading Plus Students at Home during COVID-19

Our hearts go out to all those who have been impacted by the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) across our school communities. Many educators are now faced with the challenge of supporting students outside of the familiar classroom setting.

Teachers have so much on their plates already—large class sizes and students with diverse reading needs—without the added complexity of remote teaching. We want to make this transition as easy as possible for you and your students.

 

Students and educators can easily log in to Reading Plus on any compatible device with Internet access. Here are some steps on how to assist students using Reading Plus remotely.

Step 1
Share the Parent/Student Letter with your students so that they will have all of the information they need to log in. Generate the personalized Parent/Student Letter from the Overview page for any class within your Management System.

Step 2
Encourage parents to engage with their children’s use of Reading Plus. For ideas on support and encouragement at home, click the Parents button in the upper right corner of the Student Dashboard.

Step 3
The Assignments Panel provides an efficient and effective way for teachers to check students’ completed work as they work from home. Communicate directly with your students through the in-app messenger: Just click the message or checkmark icon to the left of a student’s name to message the student. Click the message icon at the top of the column to send the same message to your whole class.

Step 4
Check your Alerts tile to see if any students need your attention and support. Remember to release Holds so that students are not prevented from working in the Reading component. Refer to this document for step-by-step instructions on responding to Alerts and monitoring weekly data from your Assignments Panel.
