Betsy is a reading specialist and the founder of the Academic Edge, 1984, and a private school for children who learn differently, Woodbridge Academy, 1989. She spent 12 years in public schools as an English and social studies teacher, teacher of the gifted, and then as a reading teacher/consultant. In 1989 she started Woodbridge Academy for students who “fell through the cracks” because they had learning difficulties but did not have any support services. The chance to make a difference in even more students’ and teachers’ lives came in 2007 when Reading Plus contacted her about reaching out to the schools in Kentucky with their software program. The rest is history. She now offers Lexia Reading Core 5 and Reading Plus to Kentucky and has reached 75,000 students and is still building a team and looking to help even more.
Spending 45+ years as a career educator has been at times heart-wrenching, but mostly inspiring. Our future is truly based on the success of our young ones.
